hi everyone... I have an iPhone 2G 2.2 (unlocked and not jailbroken) and updated to 3.0. the process was very smooth and everything is working except for the odd application or 2 but nothing major... except...

the problem is that the iPhone is very warm to the touch while before it was cool. i first thought it was running full speed during the update proess but now hours and hours passed and it is still very very warm... (especially on the top part in the rear)... anyone having the same symptoms?

also the normal using of the phone is kind of sluggish. does this mean that the os might be a little too much for the old 2G with 4.7GB memory left? if anyone has any idea on how to improve performance please share...

    thanks a lot

Have you tried the old IT favourite - switching it off and back on again?

I have an unlocked 2G with only 864MB free and it is neither hot or sluggish.

I upgraded last night and shortly afterwards did a switch off/on, so it may help.

first thing that sprang to mind... did that and did not help at all... the problem is that the battery is now being consumed very fast... i had it charged at night till 7 in the morning and now is about 2 and needs a recharge cause about 15% left only... today i retried switching it off and deleting all the unnecessary stuff... no joy...

I'm having the same problem on a 3g. I gues it's somehow connected to push notifications. Or wifi. Try disabling push notifications and wifi, turn the phone off and back on and it should work fine, until you try to enable push notifications again. Let me know how it went.

i left wifi on and switched off push notifications. it works good, ie the iphone is now cool to the touch and the performance improved slightly and battery life improved a real lot...

hope Apple fixes this problem soon enough... maybe OS 3.1 soon???

I'm glad my solution worked for you, this means it's not a hardware issue. A lot of people seem to have similar problems so Apple should come up with a fix pretty soon.

    Battery

I'm having the same problem. My battery is discharged after less than 10 hours on standby. I hope that Apple :apple: will fix it soon.

I have the same problem. I bought a 2G 8GB a few months ago, and it's on 02 PAYG. Not unlocked, not jailbroken. Vanilla.

Since adding 3.0, it's become much slower. Quite frustrating. I rebooted it a couple of times after installing 3.0, and again this morning. No help. Wifi is always off. Push is off.

The worse for me is the Messages app as that's the one I use all the time. It takes several seconds to open and populate the screen with messages. I thought it might be cos I had too many messages, so I deleted 80% of my messages, but it made no difference.

has some useful tips. I turned off Location Services, and that seems to help a little bit.

I guess this is Apple's way of telling us to buy a new iPhone. Grr!!! 3.0 has turned my iphone from a sleek tiger into a sluggish housecat.

I would go back to 2.2, but landscape texting is saving my wrists from RSI, and I often forwards texts too, which I can't in 3.0

Not keen on the copy and paste - SMS forwarding serves my needs, and the current implemention of C & P keeps getting in my way.
