the smart playlist "live updating" has been messed up since 3.0....it was a great feature I liked about the iPod...I thought 3.1 would fix it, but it didnt

"recently added" or "recently played" doesnt update like it did on 2.2

Just synced my iPhone on iTunes 9.01 for the first time.

I decided to change a few settings in the Photos tab after the sync had started and then pressed the "Sync" button again.

What happened next was rather weird. The new sync decided to remove around 80% of my apps from the phone!

Restoring from backup right now...

I guess it pays not to mess with ANY settings while a sync is in progress.

cool. i'm eager to try it out since my work around posted earlier didn't end up working (worked on first sync but not since adding new music).

Unless you can fit your whole music library on your iPhone, I think this will end up with the same result as unchecking Live Updating....?

Why? You don't need your whole library for this to work. I have probably about 90% of mine on and it works, and I get to keep live updating on.

Solution!

I have finally found the solution to this problem, you simply need to add a rule to the smart playlist that says Playlist is Music!!!

Edit: O ahah I was on wrong page sorry :(, kinda late for solution.

A current work around is to uncheck 'live updating' for each of your smart playlists. This ensures that the list is synced across to the iPhone in the same order as on your computer. The lists will still update on your computer in a semi-live fashion (I don't really know what live updating is supposed to do in this regard), but not as you play on your iPhone.

This solved my problem of my podcast playlists not appearing in my playlist view even though iTunes showed the playlist there on my iTouch.

Thank you so much; I'll leave the live updating off at least until the next update. Maybe I should figure out what it is supposed to do.
