iPhone 3 email issues

Hello everyone, firstly please excuse my complete lack of knowledge when it comes to iPhones! I have I think the oldest iPhone, which however works wonderfully I am having a little trouble with my email though. When trying to send a picture it loads into the email then shuts off completely and sends me back to my first app screen? I am useless with technology although I know how to send email etc. Has anyone else has this happen? Many thanks in advance

Try restarting it by holding the power and home buttons till you see an apple logo come up

Ok so I would love to say that I was clever enough to think "hey turn it off n on again" unfortunately nope I'm obviously not lol. Your advice worked. Thank you very much it is most appreciated
