I did not use my iPhone 3G for a long time. It was on 3.1.2. Tried upgrading it to 4.2.1 by using Snowbreeze.
    * Downloaded the ipsw (iPhone1,2_4.2.1_8C148_Restore.ipsw) and cooked it in Sn0wbreeze (got sn0wbreeze_iPhone_3G-4.2.1-8C148.ipsw).
    * Put the phone in recovery mode in iTunes (10.1.1.4). iTunes showed the message "Server could not be contacted". But, it showed the device. Clicked Shift+Restore and selected the cooked ipsw.
    * Upgraded to 4.2.1 successfully. It worked fine.
    * Cydia was already installed in the device. Added "http://blackra1n.com/" to the source and installed "blacksn0w" to get the phone Unlocked. That is when the problem started. The phone was stuck in Sn0wbreeze logo. iTunes is not recognizing the device too. Please help!

    Got it resolved!!!
Installed the latest iTunes (11.0.2.26). The phone was detected now.
Clicked Shift+Restore and selected the cooked ipsw. Got the 1600, 1601 errors.
Used iREB (iTunes Restore Error Bypasser) to avoid this.
When tried next time, it got upgraded to 4.2.1 successfully.
Cydia was already installed in the device. Got it unlocked using ultrasn0w (http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com)
    All set!!!
