I purchased myself a brand new iPhone today, and I can't get any applications that I download to work. They crash 2-5 seconds after I open them. I took it back to the store, and they swapped it for a another new one, and the new one is exactly the same - except all I did with this one was activate it (no fireware update) and it's the same.

It doesn't matter how many times I restore, turn it off and on, the problem persists.

One of the main reasons for purchasing this phone was the movies application and the IM application. None of which open.

This is incredibly frustrating. Is anyone else having problems like this?

Have you tried restoring the phone (so that it reinstalls the OS) and then chosing to set it up as a new phone (i.e. not restore a backup).

After a month with my iPhone 3g, the camera app started to crash when I opened it.

Restoring the OS and then recovering from a backup didn't fix it.

Restoring the OS and then setting the iPhone up as a new phone (i.e. all original settings, etc) did.

Aw here was me thinking that a multibillionaire had taken time out of his extremely busy schedule, 24 hours before a major new product launch, to send me an email.

The Real Steve probably would have said something along the lines of "unless you've had your head up your butt for the last month, you know that we've already said that we're working on a new release that will fix this stuff." :D

I took my new iPhone 3G back to the CW store for an unrelated issue. They straightaway gave me another one (unnecessarily, as it happens). Got home, authorised it, restored the backup -and none of the apps I'd downloaded worked. They all started and then crashed back to home screen 2 seconds later. I tried restoring etc. but no improvement. Searching the Internet found lots of people with the same problem, and pointed the finger towards a syncing issue with iTunes, but no sensible solutions so I ended up ringing Apple customer support. The solution is to -
Go to iTunes store (on menu bar at top of screen) and authorise computer
    Connect the iPhone
On the summary screen, click on the apps tab and deselect all, apply
On the edit tab, select preferences, syncing, then reset sync library
Finally go to summary tab and reapply all the applications.
I was relieved when this worked.
