Has anyone seen a press release or any evidence that the 3G iPhone has been approved by the FCC? Seems highly unlikely Apple could bring it to market next week if it hasn't been approved yet. (Perhaps Apple is only announcing it next week?)

The FCC must approve it ahead of time, but they don't have to SAY they've approved it. The approval just has to be published before it goes on sale. That's all.

They could time it so the FCC's approval gets announce right after the speech with the phones being sold an hour after that.

But yes, I personally believe this theory (with the phnoes going on sale the following week so as to get a week of free news reports about the launch).

That gives the FCC tons of time to put out the report.
