Me too, with a 3GS. Only way I could get around the problem was to create another user account (Windows XP) and restore it from iTunes in there. Then restore from a backup in my original user account.

Despite the advice from Apple it was nothing to do with the USB port it was connected to.

Currently resyncing everything back to the iPhone.

    Hope this helps...

As I mentioned, you'll need to restore it from a backup on your original user account. Then sync everything using a normal sync from that account too (although the restore backup process should initiate a sync).

    Good luck!

It would not allow me to restore from a backup, it kept coming up with an error.

In the end i just manually synced what apps i had saved on my laptop over to the iphone and copied the email accounts from the ipad to the iphone since they were the same.

Unfortunatly now i am missing some pictures i took over the past few days as i hadnt copied them to my laptop just assuming the backup would work which it didnt and also all my text messages and notes.

so much for apple products just work i guess lol
