There is no way they can edit a product into a movie a week or a day before the release. The reel is at the theater long before that.

Actually I am in the filming industry as well and yes you can and again they do it all the time. If it's not going to be a hyped up mega million movie they will send reels prior to release but movies like The Dark Knight especially with the death of Heath Ledger they will make changes if need-be especially when they were over budget and sponsors are willing to pay a lot last minute to be in it. Happens a lot.
