Iphone 3g Internet Plan Question?

Hey yall,
I'm thinking about buying an unlocked Iphone 3g off Craigslist or Amazon. But I was wondering, do you have to buy the internet plan to use the phone? I mean, I'm not going to be using the internet. So can you use the phone without the internet plan? I think $60 a month for texting and internet is a little crazy..

If you currently have an AT&T account, you can put your SIM card in there for the phone, the only problem is AT&T will "see" that you are using a smartphone/iPhone and will send you a text saying you need a data plan and add it on for you. One of the risks you run. All smartphones on AT&T require a data plan. The cheapest one they have right now is the 200MB plan for $15/month.
