I was just interested to see what the iPhone did when you insert a different sim card to the stock one that it came with, so put in my old O2 sim card which is still under a contract for another month or so.

The iPhone is able to make calls, send texts and access the internet with a regular O2 sim inside it.

Is this normal? because as far as i was aware of, the iPhone only works with the one it's shipped with.

This is great news but I wanted a little more clarification. I have 2 phones on my ATT account. 1 was updated 2 months ago and the other is mine that I've had for 3 years. ATT has jacked up my account and is showing my line was upgraded 2 months ago. Because of this I cannot upgrade online and obtain my corporate discount. I'm thinking about upgrading online but choosing the second line as it shows available online. Then put my SIM from current phone into new iPhone. Any idea if this will work and will my new data plan be ok as I'm ordering all that new?
