Iphone 3G lock button wont turn off/lock iphone

Ok so my iPhone 3G lock/turn off button is unresponsive. It's become a drag because I cant lock it while listening to music so it shuffles, or when talking i have to wait for it to lock itself because if I put it in my pocket the buttons will get pressed. Any ideas on what I should do before I take it to the Apple store if they would even do anything about it its so old now.

It needs a new wiring harness. Take it to a local repairer - won't cost much.
