I have an iphone 3G on version 4.1 and it is very very slow. However, when I do a turn off/on the iphone, it is faster for a few minutes and then I have to turn off/on the iphone again. I do this process at least 4-5 times a day. Its soooooooooo frustrating.

The iphone is jailbroken.

Should I just restore back to 3.1.3? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Yes, besides getting an iphone 3GS or iphone 4 the other option is to go down to 3.1.3
Anything past 4.0 on a 3G is unbearable IMO.

I hear 4.2.1 makes it snappier than 4.1. (yes you can go all the way to 4.2.1 on a 3G)

Yes" it is better than 4.1 but still slow. My recommendation is concur with Applejuiced which is going down to 3.1.3. It is best for 3G.

I have used every version of redsn0w and it keeps saying "Unable to recognize specified IPSW". Just to be sure, it is the firmware 3.1.3 (7E18) that I have to use, correct?

Since none of the redsn0w version that I have is working, what else can I use? Sn0wbreeze????

Just restore to 3.1.3 with iTunes. I think i used Spirit to JB my gf's 3G.

In order for you to jailbreak 3.1.3 3G, here is what you need to do;

1. Download Redsn0w 0.9.4
2. Download 3G 3.1.2
3. Run redsn0w and point it to 3.1.2 and not 3.1.3

Or you can use a simpler method which is Spirit or Jailbreakme.com

Ok, I downloaded redsn0w 0.9.4 and firmware 3.1.2 and it does recognize it. However, I am now reading that I have to restore into itunes. Which is the best method?

1) restore to 3.1.3 through iTunes.
2) run Redsnow and put to 3.1.2 firmware file you downloaded to JB.

I have restored to 3.1.3 thru itunes and ran redsnow 0.9.4 on firmware 3.1.2 to jailbreak, and everything works good. However......when I go into cydia...at the top it says "Error cache failed". When I try to unlock the phone, it says complete at the top and "Reloading Data" for like 30 minutes.

I have restored/jb this about 5 times and still same issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

You were on 4.1 right? Is your baseband updated?

Now I can't get back into cydia. I was able to earlier, however when I try to get back to cydia, all it does is say "Loading data".

Help please.

Use Spirit to Jailbreak, Redsn0w gave me the same Cydia issues when I downgraded my 3G. You should be able to do a straight Spirit JB over the top of Redsn0w, worked for me.
