I seem to have much worse reception with my new iPhone compared to my old iPhone. It seems I go in and out of service much more often. I usually wind up turning off the phone so it will find a service when I turn it back on. Weird. Does anyone notice this as a problem too?

Are you running in 3G mode? I've noticed that when in 3G mode my signal is mostly worse, as I'm on the edge of Philly coverage and 3G does work on a different "system". However, running with 3G off my reception is usually as good as and in some locations better than my old iPhone.

Actually, not true. 3G iPhones are shipped with 5A345. The update Apple made available during the upgrade process is 5A347

If I'm not mistaken, 5A347 was for 1st gen iPhones only, 3G got the 5A345 build, as there's no "3G" selection in the old ones.

Yah, I have the same problem. I'm located in downtown LA and my signal drops significantly when using 3G vs EDGE. My 3G tends to not be as quick as EDGE actually and so its getting rather annoying. I may end up calling AT&T later today.
