Found a Solution

Hey all, just wanted to share my story with you, hopefully this works for you too.

After dealing with incompetent AT&T reps, I tried online activation through AT&T's website. After confirming my SIM card number, I powered down BOTH phones. I then restarted the NEW phone 1st and it was activated. THIS after waiting all weekend for activation to kick in.

Hope this helps.

Oh, AT&T. Another nail in the coffin we're preparing for your use on the day your exclusive deal with Apple expires.
Even though it's to do with Apple's network? How can activation issues outside of the US be AT&T's fault?

It was the same thing last year. The issues were on Apple's servers not being ready, not at&t. It's funny how it's Apple that are issuing the gift cards. Your head is firmly planted in the sand when it comes to Apple. They screwed up for months with MobileMe, and last year with activation... now this.

How come all other phones have no issues activating? They go through the same AT&T system. I'm sure if anyone who bought phones other than the iPhone during the "48 hours" that people were having issues didn't have any problems. The only thing that's different is that it's not going through Apple's system.

I have to agree. When my new sim was finally activated, I was getting a message saying "you are not subscibed to a data plan." I was able to add it thru the AT&T website and it began working instantly. Also explains why so many people were able to activate it themselves on the AT&T page. It seems to me like the information from Apple was not entirely delivered to AT&T. Besides--if it were truely AT&T's fault, don't you think they would just waive the $18 activation fee? Instead you get to contribute to Apple's next announcement of their record number of Itunes downloads--slick! (although, haven't heard about anyone getting that) Maybe Apple & AT&T have a better relationship than we think.
