I just had my iPhone 3G replaced by Apple due to a failing battery. The new one works great, but the switch for silent/ring is hard to move. My old one moved easily, this one is a bit tougher, although it isn't necessarily bad. I was wondering if this is how all of them are now, or if I should take it back and ask them about it. I hesitate to go back as I'll have to restore my phone to normal (jailbreak installed right now) before I go in.

Consider yourself lucky. You wouldn't believe the amount of times I thought my phone was on silent, but ends up going off in class or at work because I slid it into my pocket JUST RIGHT to hit the switch over to the "get me in trouble when I get a text or phone call" mode, aka Silent OFF.

My first phone had a really loose silent switch. Now, my replacement (which is a couple of months old) is starting to become loose again. You can kind of wiggle it while it's in the silent position.

I say you are lucky if you have a phone that doesn't have the loose toggle switch.

QFFT, I'm sitting in class thinking my phone is silent and my friend calls, my ringtone is "hampster on a piano" and EVERYONE starts laughing. Not necessarily embarrassing but i really was out of it and felt stupid for having it flip to not silent mode. Consider yourself lucky man.

Thanks for all the feedback. My old one was pretty loose, but I think I only accidentally switched it once. I think I'll keep this one though, it does feel much more sturdy.

I put my phone on Airplane Mode to save battery and stop any data that comes through. Then I turn it back on when I leave school.
