You certainly shouldn't need to sync if the 2G is unlocked (I use various SIMs in mine all the time), but I don't know how a simlocked phone will handle it.

If the phone isn't unlocked then as long as you insert an official carrier's sim card (ex: at&t) then it should work. It can't hurt to try? 🙂

so I will pop out my 3g iphone sim and insert into my new jailbroken iphone 2g and should would work??... can I then sync my calender phonebook and apps and ringtones that I all ready have???? and it not effect my jailbreak?

The only way the jailbreak would be effected if is you restored the phone in itunes. Swapping sim cards doesn't affect anything
