    Hey guys,

I think I asked this same question wayyy back when the 3G first came out and it never really got answered but, basically, I have a Sierra Wireless 875 Aircard that was given to me...I was wondering if putting in my iPhone 3G simcard in it would allow me to use data on it.

I know, i know about the whole tethering deal, and I don't plan on going overboard with it (I don't even go anywhere near my 5 GB monthly cap). I already have PdaNet 1.51, I just would like to be able to plug in an aircard instead of having to use my phone during those instances where I can't plug in my laptop and can't afford to have my phone sucking up all the power while it's charging+tethering at the same time.

If anybody knows if this is possible or has gotten it to work and also has some tips on if I need to change APN/WAP settings with the aircard/laptop connect software, please let me know...thanks a lot!!! :D

I would assume it would work, since it is just a SIM with a data plan, but have not tried, even though Tiger Direct has Aircards for cheap, and unlocked.

For anyone wondering, THIS WORKS! (This is also helpful for those who do not want to jailbreak but want a viable tethering solution...just purchase an aircard (doesn't have to be unlocked if it's an ATT one/you have an ATT iPhone data plan).

You MUST use these settings if you only have an iPhone data plan and not a PDA/tethering plan:

AirCard that I am using: 3G/HSDPA Sierra Wireless 875 for AT&T

(configure these settings with AT&T Connection Manager)
    Connection name: AT&T Internet
Access point: change from isp.cingular to wap.cingular. If you don't change this, you could be billed on a per kb data usage. It might also report on your OLAM that the phone you're using is an aircard, and not your iPhone.
    Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
    Password: CINGULAR1

If you use these settings, you should have no problem using your 3G/Edge iPhone data plan with any AirCard (again, it does not need to be an unlocked AirCard if it is an AT&T one and you have an AT&T plan). You also won't be billed separately unless you connect to isp.cingular and not wap.cingular.

Remember, do not push your data usage over 5 GB per month, whether you're tethering or not...(I don't even consider this tethering as i am using a totally separate device with the aircard, but it still technically could be).

Just saw this thread about swapping your 3G sim card into an air card, where does the update about connection manager occur, on the Iphone or thru the air card somehow?

Yes I got one them a while ago. Bought it unlocked thru eBay. It works no prob.
Offcourse it's alot easier to tether thru the iPhone if your jb so I haven't had a need to use it much.
