My iPhone 3G is continuously waking up, toggling the mute, and sleeping again. It drains the battery really fast. Any ideas how to fix? I've tried restore, even went back to OS 3 to no avail....

Thanks for the reply, what is a harness?

Also, does a sim card need to be in the phone for someone to repair it?

Usually if your iPhone is constantly waking from sleep and toggling the ringer on/off, it could be a loose switch or shorting out the connector internally. If you apply slight pressure on the display between the ringer switch and receiver, does it vibrate? If it does, it's a loose #5 cable (the cable that connects the physical buttons to the logic board). And to answer your other question, the SIM is not required for you to take it in for repair at the Apple Retail Store. As long as it's under warranty, or AppleCare Protection Plan, with no signs of accidental/liquid damage, then they'll repair or replace it.
