Iphone 3G speed confirmed slower then other 3G devices

So today I thought I would do a test in the Washington D.C. area to compare two 3G phones. The new 3G Iphone and a HTC 8525. I went to www.dslreports.com/mspeed a well known testing site for things like this. I did the 1mb test and here is what I found.

3G Iphone - 255 kbps
8525 - 455 kbps
Edge Iphone - 60 kbps

As you can see for some reason the 3G Iphone has some serious connection issues to the 3G network, either the antenna in the Iphone isn't good enough to get the right reception even though the number of bars is the same basiclly on both phones, or the 3G iphone is detuned some how to not be as fast? I think this is a very serious problem, maybe AT&T didn't want their network flooded with new users using all their bandwidth, hence the reason you are limited to downloading only apps 10 megs and smaller while on 3G. I hope more people start doing tests like this and we get some kind of official response from AT&T and Apple as to why the 3G Iphone isn't so "3G"

If anyone else has access to other 3G phones please post your comparison results if possible.

Both phones on the same network at the same time?

... and i have yet to see anything load up on a 3G handset any quicker than dial-up type speeds (ie. 56kbps or less). that's using in cities such as london and birmingham.
Surely you mean the other way around here?
If not, maybe it's because most 3G providers in the UK would prefer if you stick to their own wap-style 'portals' for all your browsing. Most phones aren't really good when going beyond those boundaries into the 'real internet'.

Take '3' for example. They're a 3G-only network in the UK, but their video clips are sooo poor, that it might as well be dial up.
Imagine, if you will, the quality of iPhone YouTube on EDGE, but with half the res and half the frame rate... How the hell are we supposed to watch music videos and soccer highlights with that?

It's not the iphone, it's your network.
Here in Canada I am getting over 2mbps both at home and at work on Rogers 3g network.
Just tested and got 2258kbps down and 276kbps up on 3g.

It really must just be the Washington D.C. network. I have seen my 3G Iphone max out at 500 kpbs recently. I have seen my WM device get around 1000 before but that was awhile ago. It's to bad the capital of the country has sub par 3G :(

hmm, I'm here two blocks from the White House, and I average around 750-900kpbs. If it's late, I'll get much faster speeds. I just ran a test and I got 806kbps.

I'm happy with my speeds.

Maybe its faster closer to the city. I am right at the beltway 10-12 miles away and seem to average about half that.

can anyone confirm, without lying, that they get browsing and downloads from 3G that are even worth considering using? i only ever use WiFi for getting big files and browsing the net (admittedly mine's only iphone EDGE, not 3G though).

Yes, I do. I get decent 3G speeds (around 500-750 kb/s), and it's fast enough for browsing that I often don't even bother turning on wifi. I use it for browsing, email, streaming radio with Pandora, download apps, etc, and it's plenty fast enough.
