If the phone originally had the iPad baseband before I screwed it up, would the custom firmware also need to have it to restore properly? I've only been able to find them without the iPad baseband.

EDIT: I appreciate the help, fellas.

Link? I'm only finding non-iPad versions.

They're hard to find.
Try maybe torrent sites or borrow/use someone's mac for a few to create a custom 4.2.1 ipsw with the ipad BB.
Thats the only IPSW you will be able to restore to for a long time probably.
Unless The Dev Team comes out with a way to roll back/downgrade your baseband you wont even be able to update to newer firmware unless apple updates the baseband number past 06.15 for the iphone 3G.

The only problem I see with that is this: I can't make the phone go into Restore Mode, only DFU. Downgrading with the TSS server on TU requires it to be in Restore Mode, correct? TU doesn't even recognize a phone thats in DFU mode IIRC.

EDIT: Nm. TU was able to put it in Recovery Mode this time. Weird how it works sometimes and other times it just gives me the finger. Here goes...

You dont even need TU running in the back for the restore. And having the TSS server doesnt require to be in restore mode or even an iphone plugged into the computer.
I think once you shut off TU it automaticly add the redirect to cydia for you anyway.
Then once you're done restong with the 4.1 ipsw and get the error on itunes open up TU just to kick the phone out of recovery.

Downgrade to 4.1 in proress.

IIRC, I tried this a few days ago with no success. It would give me the 1015 error, I would kick it out and then it would go right back into Recovery Mode.

I dont see why it wont work.
Only 4.2.1 has the bb check that wont allow you to kick it out of recovery with TU when it detects a BB that doesnt match the official 4.2.1 baseband.
4.1 firmware does not have that feature built in so you can have any BB version installed and still kick it out of recovery.

:apple:

Comp recognizes it...

EDIT: Interesting....I still have the apple logo but iTunes says there's no sim card in it, which it hasn't bothered to notice before. BRB w/ sim card.

You're good to go dude.

NOT SO FAST!

In the midst of waiting on the Apple logo and rotating icon to disappear, it suddenly disconnected and reconnected and now its giving me......

:apple:....with the rotating icon.

Again, its asking me how I want to set up the phone.

TU shows that the phone is on 4.1 with the iPad baseband, so the restore was somewhat successful. Its almost as if everything is working perfectly except the video.

EDIT: ....aaaaaaaand now it just did it again. Same ****, different firmware.

Doesnt make sense bro.
So you installed 4.1, did everything right and still stuck on the Apple logo.
The only conclusion I would come to is hardware problem.

Yup. Looks like its off to the parts bin. That's $100 wasted, although I should be able to get $60 of it back or so by selling the logic board on eBay. Oh well.

Thanks for hanging tough with me, brah. I'm off to bed. Come Christmas Eve, I'll be the only person in the world with visions of apples and pineapples dancing through my head.

Lol :D
It was fun dude, sucks we couldnt get it to work but at least tried.
You should be able to get some cash for it sold as is on ebay though.

In case anyone was wondering, it was still doing the reboot loop when I woke up this morning.

At some point today it decided to go back into Recovery Mode. I don't know if I want to try to kick it out again or leave it. It won't do any good either way.

Maybe if I face towards the rising sun on the third day of the first month of a leap year and stand on one foot while solving x + y = 12 - 3 in my head and press up, up, up, down, up, silent, loud, then power + home, it will work.
