I am on t mobile(which I am sure has everything to do with my problem). What I want to know is it possible to get this thing working without having to get one of those pieces that slide over the sim card. c'mon iphone hacks community pull together and get this phone working,ha ha just kidding please help though. thanks

    It's called yellowsn0w ;)

This will only work with 02.28.00 baseband.

    Settings > General > About...

If it doesn't look like this, you're out of luck (if you updated to 2.2.1 and used Quickpwn).

Download the 2.2 firmware file here
Restore your iPhone to the firmware you downloaded by holding "option" while clicking restore in iTunes. ("Shift" instead of option If you have a PC)

    Follow the tutorial here.

Just out of curiosity, what firmware are you currently running?

Don't go any higher than 2.2 if you're using Quickpwn...

Edit: Nevermind, I googled it. You're on 2.1...

Yes, we know. Now you need to update to 2.2, not 2.2.1, jailbreak, and install yellowsn0w. Done.

Try reading the help we're serving to you, you were too lazy to Google, now you're being too lazy to read.

The reason it's not working is because yello0wsnow works with firmware 2.2, NOT earlier firmware.

(Restore to 2.2 (not update or you'll lose 500 MB) from link provided above, and call it a day (you haz success). ;)

No. Do not just update, this will eat up at least 500mb of your storage. DFU Restore your phone, update to 2.2 through iTunes by holding the shift key (Option for Macs), clicking Restore, and then choose the 2.2 firmware file you were given.

Then use QuickPwn, install yellowsn0w and you are done :)

Well, The firmware link you downloaded is directly from the Apple site. With Windows I have to unzip the files first.

Make sure your browser is set to NOT open downloaded files automatically.

You might also try removing .zip from the extension so it looks like this:

    iPhone1,2_2-1.2_5G77_Restore.ipsw

-then you should see the cool looking icon...
