iPhone 3G very slow after 3.0 update

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3G (white): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

anyone else having this problem?

Yup, me too. My iPod 2G is doing fine, but my iPhone 3G is noticeably slower than it was when running 'vanilla' 2.2.1 ... I had initially just done an upgrade, but then I did a full restore and set it up as a new phone. No change. So I restored the 2.2.1 backup I had made for just this situation and again, no change.

OS 3.0 is just slow.

that does make sense

i have about 8000 texts and 3 mail accounts on my phone

is the spotlight index a 1 time thing or its a continuous process??

could spotlight be indexing all your data? if it works anyway the mac does i would assume this is what is happening. going through all your text messages and emails.

There is no indexing in the iPhone 3.0's "Spotlight"

It's just a normal "file name" kind of search.

I've noticed my 3G running 3.0 is more sluggish on some actions, the same in others, and a bit smoother in other areas.

Can't say I'm overly surprised by this. Sure OS 3.0 is compatible with the original Iphone and the 3G, but it's probably degigned to work best with the 3GS with it's extra processing muscle, I guess similar to the way you needed the 3G to take the fullest advantage of OS 2.0.

On the other hand, maybe the new 3.0 release is still a bit buggy, and that's what the extra decimal places in version numbers are for :)

Actually, the 2G iPod touch was designed with OS 2.0 in mind; although the 3G launched with 2.0 it was the same hardware (SOC) as the original iPhone. Otherwise, yes - I think you're right, and I think that people expecting 3.0 to run better than 2.X on the 3G are deluding themselves.

but this is bad

apple launched 3.0 to iron out the problems in iphone 3g & not to make it sluggish

i'm now trying to restore it and set it up as a new phone & will then install some games to check how they run on it

Yes have 2x 3g and 1 x 2g in family. one 3g will not receive or send MMS, photos and the 2g does not have the option to send MMS, just normal texting. any ideas ?

MMS feature is not active yet in USA and probably in few other countries

where are u from?

u have any games which require a lot of processor power like Ferrari GT?

its extremely slow running the games
Does Zenonia count? Hmm..

When I close and quit my apps it really does get snappy, probably because I'm not really more into games? I don't know

I have not had any problems. It took a while for the MMS function to arrive from O2, but it is now working.

I have also enabled tethering and that is working as well.

All in all a great update. I also used netshare for a while and that was a great little program.

How about doing a backup followed by a full fresh restore (i.e. Don't restore the backup) and seeing how it runs, if it's still just as slow you can then restore your backup. If it does run better, just make sure you keep the last backup containing your SMS, so I you ever do need to access one you can backup your current system, restore the old one to access your SMS, and then when done just restore the current backup again. A bit long winded I know, but I'm guessing you just need the abily to access your old SMS rather than actually need to do it regularly.

Update:

I finally restored my phone and set it up as a new one. Then installed apps in it....and my phone is very fast.

looked like my previous backup was creating problems :(

but this sucks.....i lost my texts

i installed phoneview last nite and took a backup of my SMS....so i have them also in text file in my PC

only problem is i wont be having them in my phone

but i gotta live with it i guess :)

I think I need to do a full restore to, what sucks for me is having to convert about 7-8 gig of Apple Lossless to AAC 320 and but it on my iPhone.
