I have been anxiously awaiting the new iPhone with 3G capabilities. I know it will come out in 2008, but any speculation or anything about it? I haven't heard anything about it ever since it was "confirmed" by Apple for 2008. Maybe new features or a new design?

I think apple is going to hold out on 3g for longer than necessary.
They seem to be doing lots with software revisions.
They pissed off a lot of early adopters with the price drop.
They are going to stick with the exact same hardware for as long as possible.
    This means no 3g.

I'm pretty sure it was confirmed for 2008 though:

And if not then is there a big difference between 3G, because I kind of been holding out for the iPhone, I'll get it in March, but should I wait long after that?

Could there just be a software/hardware update for current iphone owners to use 3G????

that article's headline says it is confirmed for 2008 but the text (written in 2007) says "there’s still no word on exactly when it will be available to buyers, though it’s expected to be ready some time late next year".

i remember steve jobs saying that they're working on 3G, but he didn't say when it would be released. they did say iphone would be released in asia in 2008 and i perhaps we are thinking that means 3G.

i very much doubt that's feasible.

I'd say that we'll see a whole new iPhone (with 3G) sometime in September or October, just in time for the holiday shopping season.

Remember, even though the iPhone was announced 13 months ago, it's really only been out for 7 months. They need to have the first model out for a minimum of 1 year, so not to really anger the first adopters.

Won't it need to go through the whole FCC process again? So expect it to be announced well in advance of it actually being available.

How long was the gap between the iPhones anouncement and availability dates?

It was a span of about 6 months from the announcement in MWSF to the June Release, but I doubt it will be the same. It will probably be like all the iPod announcements, on the spot.
