Iphone 3G wifi bug

Hi i would like to upgrade my iphone 3g :apple: from 3.1.2 to 4.2.1 without upgrading the baseband which is on 4.26 because i keep having glitches with the wifi connection. If possible, i would like not to upgrade the baseband.
