iPhone 3GS 4.3.3 to 5.0.1 alternative

So i find out that i can't upgrade to 5.0.1 cause Apple likes to play the Nutcracker. What do you suggest me, an erliest untethered version or the tethered one(5.1 or 5.1.1)?(considering the advantages of the two)

I'm on 5.1 tethered. I like it.

I'm not sure Apple is still signing 5.1, so you may have to go with 5.1.1. In any case, do the following:

-Download the 5.1.1 firmware (try iClarified.com), or update to 5.1.1 through iTunes
-Download RedSn0w (iClarified.com for that, too)
-Click "Jailbreak"
-Follow the instructions to put your phone in Pwned DFU mode and jailbreak
-Go back to RedSn0w's main page and go to Extras > Just Boot Tethered
-Cydia should be up and running when you click it after the tethered boot

No different than any previous tutorials except prior to running the Redsn0w JB, go to Extras-Identify IPSW and point it at 5.1 IPSW.

I recommend always getting your firmware from the iPhoneWiki
