Why do you say it won’t be as fast as the iPad?

Bigger is faster.

Although that is usually because of cooling (in the case of the 13").

But a iPhone 1/3 the screen size of the iPad but runs with the same CPU...sweet! Also, if the screen rez is doubled, then it might just need the same performance.

i think he means clock for clock ;) [invisible]MHZ MYTH[/invisible] lol

He means in outright mhz (ie: 1000 to 800mhz)

Snapdragon is 1ghz don't forget other phones have this.

The ipad feels very fast when in use, I would like to see the new iPhones preformance near that mark.

ahh right nice one. once res comes into it the performance might be around the same if not better then the ipad. :D

Where did you hear it will have better battery life? Wherever, it is just speculation, since the prototype doesn’t tell you that.

3Gs = 4.51 WHr
4G = 5.25 WHr
iPad = 24.8 WHr

We don't know, but we can deduce/hope that the larger battery means longer battery life. Also, isn't the A4 supposed to be more battery efficient?
At the same time, the A4 chip is so power efficient that it helps iPad get up to 10 hours of battery life on a single charge.

However, we can also deduce that a battery almost 1/5 that of the iPad would last about 2 hours instead of 10 hours if running at full clock....in airplane mode. Turning on the phone will make it run down much more quickly. So we can also deduce that Apple will underclock the A4 in the iPhone to conserve battery. They've done it before...right?

So yeah, we don't know these things, but we can make good educated guesses.

Edit: ok...I didn't take the smaller LCD into consideration, but I still stand by my assertions.

For Steve Job wanting an "A+" improvement, then it has to at least be 1 ghz or better. Competition has that speed if not better. Sure performance matter more than speed alone. So, better battery life also enhance the experience. Higher resolution may make some difference. I am excited about the ichat possibilities. I am interested in seeing how the multi-task will work live. If the next iphone can be a hot wifi spot for us to tether or iPad and macbook pro would be nice. I just want better apps for all iPad, iphone, and macbook pro!!I would have like a 5 mega-pixel front camera and a 12 mega-pixel back camera with a flash. Better voice-command be nice. Better graphics to compete with psp2 and the likes. If the screen is lcd, will it be like the iPad lcd? Will the 4.0 have wireless sync? I would like to see in notes if we can draw figures and use our fingers to write and have them converted to text. Will anybody have a more power way to takes on the iPad or iphone?

You're not happy with:
800mhz(I bet it will be underclocked to this) processor
front facing camera
better back camera
flash
Cool new design
Other unknown features
4.0 update
Higher-res screen.
Better battery life
I'm curious as to what exactly you want.

1GHz A4
512MB RAM
64GB
SGX540/543

720p video recording - But it probably has it already.

So the speculation is that Apple will underclock the iPhone 4 CPU to conserve battery life? Well, as long as it's a FAST phone I'll be happy. My 3G feels slower and slower all the time.

If it's like the pictures we've been seeing I'm a buyer upon release. I really like the new form factors's flat sides and back. It will be so much more comfortable and less slippery to hold. Also the new shape allows for a larger battery. Finally, there is all the other improvements that Apple does so well.
I'm all in.
