activation problems are because HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of people are trying to activate their iphones at the same time.. its NOT an issue

i have only seen one person complain about that.. i had the iphone 3g and had problems but the 3G S i just bought seems PERFECT ..no build problems at all.. its nice

I had my new iPhone in my hand at 7:15am without so much as a reservation and without any huge wait in line. Smoothest launch of the three I've been to.

I know nobody who even knows what a Palm Pre is.

I know 2 or 3 people who have ordered an iPhone 3G S, another who wants to buy my iPhone.

Until someone has an app store anything close to what Apple has, forget it. You'll have a decent amount of users who just need phone and/or e-mail features, but after that Apple rules. Remember how long Windows-based PCs absolutely had every upper hand against everyone else? It was all about software.

I finished my exams at 10:30 and immediately headed to Best Buy by 11. I live in Canada, so they're only available at Rogers/Fido stores, as well as Best Buy's and Futureshop's. By 11, every Rogers Store around me was sold out of iPhone. The stores open at 10 ;) So at Best Buy, I'm there till 5:00, because their systems were acting up. I must've seen over 30 customers walk into a BEST BUY hoping to get an iPhone. I say, without a doubt, the iPhone 3GS has more hype, a larger fanbase, and will sell more than the Palm Pre.

The Pre ain't so bad

I got a Pre when it came out. I used it for a week. I ended up returning it. The main reason was the lousy Sprint signal I had at home and at work.
But the phone has some nice features.

I get a great AT&T signal, so I immediately ordered a 3Gs after returning the Pre. After all a mobile phone is all about connectivity and Sprint wasn't delivering it.

The Pre doesn't look that bad, but its sales cannot compare to the iPhone. Pre's opening 3 days sold anywhere from 50,000 to 100,000 units.

The iPhone 3G sold over a million units in its first 3 days, and the iPhone 3G S seems to be doing even better than that.

I just can't believe the Pre can't do voice/data simultaneously. That is horrific. If someone calls while you are web browsing it goes straight to voicemail. Now that's multitasking ;)

That's only partially true. If you have a EVDO signal (CDMA's 3G) and you are using data when a call comes in your data will pause and the call will come through on your phone. If you have a 1x connection (CDMA's EDGE) and you are using data then yes the call will go through voicemail.

Same rules apply for iPhone. If you are using data on 3G the data will allow the call to go through to the phone. However if you are using edge any call will be routed straight through to voicemail if you are using data.

Considering Sprint's EVDO network is a lot bigger than AT&T's 3G network I'd say Sprint has the upper hand here. Not to mention, there are a lot of times on my iPhone when I was smack in the middle of 3G coverage according to AT&T however I only got edge. If Sprint says you have EVDO coverage, then you have EVDO coverage.

It was horrible last year when they released it to many more countries on the same day. Now they've reduced it to less than 6 and guess what... the servers still can't handle it.

Perhaps next year they should just stick to doing it one country per day.

doing a country a day is worse than waiting for few hours activating!
well more for me since US will definitely be the first 1s to get it :(

Lets see.. 50-100k Vs probably more than a million. Who do you think won? BTW, have fun in bankrupty court, Palm.. buhahaha. :apple:

Palm. Soon to be "Duuuude, you got a Palmmmmmmmmm?!"
The figures show O2 in the UK outsold from last year significantly, and Apple was selling strong. Efficiency and less problems mean more people got handsets, quicker, shrinking the queues down.

Pre

I spent some time with the Pre the other day. It has some nice features BUT
