I just can't believe the Pre can't do voice/data simultaneously. That is horrific. If someone calls while you are web browsing it goes straight to voicemail. Now that's multitasking

No, that's what the first iPhone did, and all iPhone models do when on EDGE.

CDMA is different. Incoming calls usually pause the data and come through. After you hang up, the data resumes.

Still not great, but much better IMO.

Either you're joking or you have no idea about simple economics. Palm is a lot smaller of a company than Apple so they can pull in a profit by selling a lot less units. Their stock is up 4x since January which is great considering the general poor health of the market, and they've been upgraded by analysts to buy.

Palm doesn't have to beat iPhone numbers to be a success, they simply have to sell enough phones to make a profit. They're expected to be profitable by the end of 2009, not bad at all considering the recession. Profitable companies don't go bankrupt.
