Windows 7 looks like a multiple-clown homicide. Colours all over the place, transparency-glass-hell. Looks like it was designed by Flava Flav on a bender.

Have to agree lol...

Damn, Almost 4 hours to go, cant wait!

Easy to fix - change to the "Slate" theme....

"Personalize" -> "Window Colors" -> "Slate" -> "OK"

^^ What he said.

Guess the keyword would be options...

Let's see, do I go with pale creamcake or woodstock creamcake today?

Hehehe, I agree 100%. It looks and feels iike a total disaster

Well you can "fix" it, but all that gaudy flash is supposed to be one of the selling points of the UI. And slate looks pretty horrible as well. Looks like something uploaded to Wincustomize for practice.

Always having to fix and change things in Windows . . . but fixing what MS can't manage on its own is called "customizing" and "options." Let the user do the work.

I've always been amused that so many Windows users start off a fresh install by right away turning things off and changing over settings on an OS that's supposed to be next-gen. As if the way it ships is unusable for some reason.

Still, I'd rather have the options to, than not... ;)

OS X may feel right (except the mousing part) but it sure looks like someone went crazy with their fisher-price monkeywrench and some vanilla ice-cream. I still can't understand how a corporation so concerned with design can let something like this through. They could at the very least unify it properly.

It's a matter of taste, but OS X is acknowledged as having the best UI out there. It's understated elegance. UI effects aren't there simply for the sake of having them.

I've always been amused that so many iPhone users start off with a fresh phone right away by turning things off and changing over settings on a phone that's supposed to be next-gen just to have decent battery life. As if the way it ships is unusable for some reason.

See, trolling is easy instead of admitting that options are a good thing ;)

PS: Yes, I'm an iPhone user myself
PS2: To be fair, Windows 7's UI is more elegant and not "look how cool transparencies and colors all over the place are!". Synofsky and his team do have taste.

Haven't seen if anyone else has noted this yet (7 pages of responses) but there has been a GS in Apple's lineup before - the Apple IIGS. The GS on that machine was for graphics & sound. I remember when it came out, my family was trying to choose between the IIGS and a new machine called "Macintosh". I was initially upset we went with the B&W Macintosh rather than the color IIGS, but that all went away once I saw MacPaint.....

Seems pretty likely the G is for graphics, but pretty unlikely the S is for sound. I'd say "Speed".

Seriously, this guy pisses me off. Its like he's leeching off Macrumors and other sources alike to make his "own" predictions.

Yeah.
Reputable sites that don't themselves reprint rumours from other rumour sites, you mean?

The problem is that you can't, by default, troll very effectively against the iPhone (like most Apple products.) And in a few hours we're about to find out why. Again.

Gruber's predictions and rumours are as good as anyone else's, in that they're . . . predictions and rumours.

Colors?

I think you are over-simplifying what a UI is.

I think you're missing the point. If you read what I've written, I've said most of the changes have already been made. Most of the UI has been redesigned including the most egregious in Finder and System Preferences. What is missive is a cohesive theme.

It still can't multitask third party apps :D

I hope they will come out with the best phone ever, but I doubt it will be much more than an incremental update. That's all Apple does now :(

Why does every app have to look the same? The controls aren't confusing just because they have a different color.

Every app doesn't have to look the same but it has to have the same feel. A cohesive theme will give a user a good idea of what to do when using an unfamiliar app because of the knowledge gained from the consistency of the OS.

As for the colors. Yes, they are all over the place. Apple is a company that prides itself on aesthetics and design. Apple users also takes pride in that. Both in hardware and software. For anyone who appreciates these things, the multiple themes in the OS is irritating. This has been going on for years now. One would figure that an upcoming OS with no new features could at least unify the theme of the OS.

John Gruber :

MARBLE

The other X-factor is “Marble”, the rumored redesign of the entire OS’s visual appearance. Could that be the secret Snow Leopard “feature”? Six months ago that’s what I was expecting: that from an engineering point of view, Snow Leopard’s changes would be low-level, but that by making everything look all-new, Apple would have an obvious way to sell it to consumers as something worth paying for. If it looks new it is new, from a normal person’s perspective.

But while I am convinced that “Marble” is a real design project at Apple, I no longer believe it is slated for Snow Leopard. A new visual appearance isn’t something Apple can spring on third-party developers at the last moment. If they plan to ship Snow Leopard soon — say, by the end of August — that just isn’t enough time to allow developers to update their software to look good under a new UI theme. (There’s also the problem of creating software that looks good under both the new and old themes.)

So my hunch is no Marble for Snow Leopard — that it’s now a 10.7 thing. But I’d never bet too much money on the side of Apple accommodating the needs of third-party developers.

I hope that is not true. I was actually looking forward to seeing the Marble theme. OS X needs a little updated look. This would also be a good "selling point" for people to buy Snow Leopard. I know that SL was announced as "better performance" but some people get updates for visual enhancements. A new theme could help with that.

Then they would need to do better. Best doesn't necessary imply good, just the frontmost one.

Hey, btw about i.e. the traffic lights, I can understand red, yellow and green but the glossy/plastic bubble feel? It's reminds me of the colored iMac's from years ago... And blue glowing buttons, yeah, that was cool in nineties too.

Understated elegance, pffft... :p

THE TABLET

I’m completely convinced that the tablet is real. But I am almost just as convinced that it is not ready to be announced...

That's because the Tablet is not ready. Now a sleek looking Netbook ... what a stunner that would be if Steve walked out with one?

It saddens me that so many people seem to be very ego-centristic when it comes to evaluating features and suchlike. Also, AT&T is a non-issue in most countries of the world, a fact far too many people seem to ignore.

There are very many people who would love to see video-chat being a reality. And even if it were just 20% of a possible userbase for iPhone, the feature wouldn't stop the other 80% now would it?

Do we ignore it or is it that we don't care? Caring about carriers outside the persons' home country is like caring about your post count. ;)

Does anyone think that by Apple upgrading the Uni Macbooks to the Pro line, they have just created the space for the tablet to slot into?? Before the WWDC keynote, people were wondering where Apple could place a tablet in their line-up but now maybe they've created a slot!

Wat u think?? Theres rumors of Steve coming back at the end of the month with a media event. Could it be the tablet? Maybe not, but I definitely think that the tablet will be coming now cause of wat happened today!
