iPhone 3gs-New to the scene

I'm going to buy an iphone 3gs this weekend, and unlock it on the Tmobile network. I know that I'll only get edge. =[

Can anyone give me tips/tricks/ anything else i need to know to get the most out of my phone, and enjoy it the most while having some good battery life? I heard that iOS 3.X is a lot better with battery than 4.2 as well




P.S.-hows google maps with edge? Is it as slow as I assume (really slow)?
