iphone 3GS randomly no longer working

SO never been jailbroken or anything like that, but for some reason when it was on and everything, it just turned off. I keep trying to boot it, but I only ever see the apple symbol and it never goes further than that. Anything I can do?

I tried plugging it into my mac but that did nothing either.
