If my 32 GB iPhone 3GS stops working, does that mean Apple will replace it with the iPhone 4?
 
Unfortunately not, they have spares off old hardware for a long time. I even think they still have the original iPhone left.

If they no longer have 32GB replacement models they will upgrade you. Chances are they will for at least a year because they still make the 8GB 3GS. Dropping in a larger drive is easy since the are still manufacturing the body style.
