In your position, having had your horrendous experience, I wouldn't touch carphonewarehouse again with a barge pole!
Honestly, I think it's in your best interest to call them and ask about this. As I said, it may have changed, but you're going to be very pissed off if you don't get an iPhone due to stock shortages or something because you clicked 'in-store pick up'. And hell, if it has to be delivered then you don't have to queue. Win-win! Call them.

I've sold 2 phones to Envirofone in the UK. Excellent company and simple process. You register online, tell them what phones you want to sell, then they'll send you out a return stamped + addressed padded envelope. You chuck your phone/s in the envelope (no chargers / box or anything) send it back. Assuming the phone is in working order they will give you the full value they quoted initially, or if its damaged ie doesn't turn on, screen broken etc they'll give you part value. You can agree to sell at the part-value rate, or if you dont like it they will send it back to you. They then send you out a cheque a week or so later and happy days 🙂

Just gone through the process to sign up - best do that now if you're thinking of selling in next 20 days, as it'll take a day or two to get the return padded envelope thing.
Just a quick question - is it padded enough? Should yuo add extra padding?

Its a bubble wrap padded parcel bag, decent enough.
I was selling oldish phones and didn't add any extra packing. If you are worried though, especially if its a newish phone you could wrap it in an extra layer of something, wouldnt hurt.

Have you heard anything more about your order?
I have been messing about with O2 for days & getting such different info about what i can & cant do. So in the end i have just thought bugger it & pre ordered with Carphone warehouse. Im not sure i have done the right thing, as in the past i have hear & read things about them but that WAS before O2 took over, am i right in that ??
Im willing to take the chance anyway, just to get this iPhone 3GS...It sure better be worth it in the end, the amount of stress im taking just to make this possible..
Both years I have had the new iPhone on the very first day of release & im determined it has to be the same everytime. NOT the 20th or anyday after.

£440 or £535?!!?!?!? lol thats insane prices.
Can someone help me decide on whether i want pay as you go or contract.
3G S model, preferably.
1) business or corportate deals (what are these?)
2) 16gb and 32gb difference is purerly hard drive space? nothing else?
If i dont plan to use iphone as music player/media player....16gb is more than enough right?
3) Do you HAVE to top up each month on Pay Go? like a tarriff?
4) 300 texts = £10-14...?!? why cant they give exact price?
5) So if you have pay as you go... you are not tied to a long contract? And can pack up and leave any time? And take PAC code too?
6) Their deals/plans dont mention MMS allowance.
7) If you take a picture on the iphone, can you send it to an email address? Or only via MMS message to another number?
My friend takes pics and sends them to my email adress directly from his iphone in usa.
If theres unlimited internet data usage..... we can just send pics to an email address, cant we? for free.... so no need for MMS....?
I think i would be happy with 100-150 mins....possibly less.
200-500 texts...possibly less....

If i buy the Iphone from an o2 store or Carphonewarehouse, will they make me buy a top up for the PAYG sum and activate the phone in the shop (obviously i dont want to spend the extra £10 on a top up that i will not use) or can i just buy the phone and activate it myself at home. Would i be best buying it from an Apple store?

To benefit from the free web and wifi for 12 months, you'll need the sim that comes with the 3GS. However, if you decided not to take advantage of this, then as long as the sim is o2, it should work fine with the 3GS.
Thanks for your help, I have unlimited web bolt on on my pay monthly contract anyway and not too worried about missing out on the wifi or visual voicemail etc. Do you know the situation regarding activation of the phone? Does this have to be done with the PAYG sim it comes with or does it matter?

No, You don't have to top up monthly or anything, just the initial 10 that they make you take, I don't believe the sim gets activated till you put it in phone though. I've not topped up since I bought my 3g last september, and only used 15 quid or so credit in that time ( I transferred my number from another o2 PAYG sim, so I already had some other credit )

I don't think it matters which sim you use to activate the iPhone, but don't miss out on the 12 months unlimited wi-fi with BT Openzone and the Cloud because you will have paid for it (that together with the unlimited web browsing accounts for £120 of the cost of the PAYG handset).
All you have to do once you've got the phone working is go to one of these hotspots and try to use wi-fi. When prompted enter the PAYG sim telephone number, not your contract number.
You don't have to have the PAYG sim in the iPhone at the time as the system registers the MAC address of the iPhone and then will work every time you enter a BT or Cloud hotspot.

but your method...will only work in bt or cloud hotspots?

It will. You're confusing internet access via wi-fi and internet access via your mobile telephone service (Cellular Data Network).
Using the method I outlined you will get internet access all the time assuming that you have either wi-fi or a telephone signal.

If you have 6 months left on your iPhone 3G contract SIM with your current number, could you defer doing this for 6 months?
I thought you could change the MAC addressses - doesn't this happen if you get a refurb - you just call them up and they'll reset the info on the MAC you're using, and in an hour, you're good to go.
If so - if someone has 6 months left, doesn't it make sense to either wait 6 months to acticate the 12 months unlimited wifi (checking te contract, there might be a time sensitive clause in their), or just use the iPhone 3GS SIM to activate it, then just move over in 6 months (meaning that you can have the old iPhone 3G with wifi, if you keep the handset) ?

If this is the case then you should get a PAYG iPhone of whatever size you think will suit you (16GB sounds enough for your needs) and then get a Simplicity Sim Card.

Superb value for money without the commitment of a lengthy contract, and everything will work on the iPhone except Visual Voicemail and Call Merging (neither of which are such a big deal). 🙂

I haven't rad through every single page, but is it true that is you use PAYG, you don't get the full 3G speeds ? Also, when 12 months is up, is is £10 for 3G and w-fi from o2 ?

yes i realise i can get on internet :
1) via 3G using 12months data plan
2) for free using wi-fi hot spots
BUT WHY would anyone want to use wi fi.....? if internet is working fine and dandy with 3GS with a full unlimited data plan???
I HAVE wi fi router at home.....but why would i want to use that on iphone to get on net......if i have an unlimited data plan?
I really dont care for wi fi...... id rather have fully working internet all the time via 3GS..........true?

Simplicity isn't Pay & Go - it's a rolling monthly contract (or you can commit for 12 months to get it cheaper), so you shouldn't have any of the restrictions of Pay & Go.
Yes, it's £10 per month for web & wi-fi when the 12 months is up.
