I was inspired by this post here on MR:
iPhone 4S/5 trade in price comparison
So here's what I came up with.
Amazon: 120$ (for FLAWLESS w/ all accessories/box etc.) or 108 for normal. Yields: Gift card for Amazon.
Apple: 95$ for normal wear "scuffs" w/cable & charger, or 80$ w/o. Yields: Gift Card for iTunes/App Stores.
Gazelle: 75$ for flawless, 70$ for Normal/Good
SellCell: anywhere from 120$ for perfect w/o accessories (i think) to 66$ for normal wear w/o accessories. This site actually talks to a handfull of other sites, as you can see from the link. But none of them are the real popular sites except buybackworld (~85$ for good) (the only one I've heard of). Would be a lot more useful. Yields: Checks, or Paypal.
Verizon: 100$ (w/o accessories?) for good condition. Yields: Gift Card, can be used toward monthly bill (/cell phone purchase if you have their internal line of credit you can pay it to your cell phone bill before you have to actually pay for you new phone.)
Orangeoffer.com (I assume is what everyone is referring to casually as "orange" which is only slightly confusing b/c of the sell phone provider in the UK being of the same colloquial name).: 100$ for used, 145$ for sealed. (have any friends with a shrink wrapper? j/k). Yields: paypal or check.
If you're in the UK, I guess, using e2save.com/trade-in is the way to go since you could get almost 150 BPS, but I don't think they want a verizon, or can sell me one back, and I think you need to buy your new phone from them as well, maybe they give additional discount.
USell.com: 20-60$ for good/used and for flawless (this is another "offer" search engine).Yields: unknown/varies
bestbuytradein.com: 110$/105$ perfect/good. Yields: Best Buy Gift Card
Walmart: estimated value very low. yields: credit toward a new cell phone purchase from walmart.
Nextworth.com / Target
170$ for good. Yields: Mail-in= check, paypal, or gift card. Walk-in to target yields target store gift card (bluch).
Looks to me like the best way to go is to just straight up sell it on amazon.
This model is starting in the used catagory with a cracked screen for 170$? Mine has no such damage
New ones are selling for 250+, refurbs are 190+.
I don't need gift cards to places I'm not going to shop during a recession, so that immediately eliminates all of those places. Perhaps some of them have fine print where you can avoid this, but that's extra work and not saying/offering that up front is annoying.
