Apple,
Why can't you provide automated profiles for different times of the day. Why can't I set a time that my phone will automatically lower the volume/change the ringtime/or go to vibrate? Doesn't seem that hard.

Also why can't we have different volume levels one for the ringer, and one for text messages etc?

Also I would really like to have customizable mail/text tones. I don't like being in a room of iPhone users and hear the mail noise and think I have mail when I don't.

I know some of these things can be obtained through jail breaking, but I choose to play by the rules why do we get penalized?

For such an awesome phone iPhone's are sure lacking in some basic niceties Apple is known for.

I have owned one of each generation iPhone since the start. I have purchased multiple ones of each for family members. However the customization of the EVO's and the like are starting to appeal to me.

I don't want to switch so make a long time Apple fan, and good customer happy...

Not to mention I was not happy today when my alarms went off an hour later then they should have because of a software bug with DST.

Regards,
Christopher

Thanks I was looking for something like that.

It just doesn't seem that out of line to have a few simple things.

there's more text tones in 4.2 so there is more variation, the fact that they've messed around in the coding to allow you to assign different SMS tones to different contacts holds out hope that when iTunes 10.1 gets released officially, it will enable custom sms tones on 4.2, like when custom ringtones came about.

all good things come to those who wait....

As far as the new "tones" they are going in the wrong direction. The new tones they put in 4.2 are way way too long for texts. What we need are more 2-4 note tones. Even using three with a couple of different "instruments" and changing the order of the notes, you would have tons of variation that would not aggravate everyone around you.

I too am holding out hope for custom SMS tones.

When I first heard the new tones I thought they were too long, but now that I have them and use them, they feel just right. but thats just me.

I've kept my mouth shut until now, but this brings up another sticking point for me. For a 4th generation iteration of the OS, iOS is missing some REALLY basic functions.

I could not agree with you more! Not JUST basic functions, but basic functions that have been available in cheap phones for a LONG time...I find it frustrating to say the least.
I recognize that, in any phone, there are feature trade-offs, but it is silly that some of the simple things requested are still missing.
And if someone doesn't want/need the feature sets we are talking about, just don't turn them on!

Repeating alarms, more than twice... and also what the OP said. I love my iPhone but Apple is SO SLOW and sometimes downright stupid with the things they refuse to put in.

I suspect it's more because it's aimed at non-business users first. Profiles would be awesome.

Of course in the past when I wanted these same things on my old Windows V5 phone I had to hack it as well just to get them.

So the burning question is why don't they include these things or at the very least allow someone to create an ap that does these things without haveing to hack the phone?
