So I'm looking at cases. The Otterbox Defender case looks like the best. I wanted to get one on ebay for 20 bucks, but Otterbox updated their site and it says the the iPhone 4 cases won't fit the 4S. They have a new 4S case with a bigger opening for the camera. Is there some difference that we don't know about?

The iPhone 4 and the 4s are the exact same dimensions.

Yes, I know this. Did you not read my post?

Compatibility:
iPhone 4 (all carriers)
Does not fit iPhone 4 in WHITE
Does not fit the iPhone 4S

If the camera opening is the only difference, they may just be trying to avoid the flash washout issue. Apart from that, from what I understand the "universal" cases that came out after the release of the VZW iPhone will work with the 4S. The early-released AT&T-only cases won't due to the mute switch on the 4S now being in the same location as the VZW iPhone 4. I could be wrong, but reading tweets from Speck, et. al., led me to believe that.

As far as people have said, every iPhone 4 case should fit. Beyond that I can't really tell you, but from what was hands on yesterday the camera is the same size outside only the sensor is bigger but that's under the hood.

To me it would just seem like they were trying to make money by selling more cases.

Its definitely the same. But you did have me worried a little. I would be very annoyed if iPhone 4 cases didn't fit. I just got the iPhone 4 king pig Angry Birds case a week ago from Urban Outfitters for $15.

This is exactly it. The iPhone 4s's camera has an increased sensor size to offset the increase in megapixels which allow it to take more stellar photos (rather than just pumping more megapixels into them to make them larger). The larger hole allows the 4s's to take in more light.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks.

So what are some good iPhone 4 cases that are comparable to the Otterbox Defender that would work for the 4S?

I asked an Apple rep, and they said all iPhone 4 CDMA bumpers will fit the iPhone 4S -> thus I would expect the same for aftermarket.

I'm just going to wait until I get the phone. If one of my current 4 cases doesn't work on it, then I'll get a new one.
