Wait, do we know this for absolute sure? We probably do, but we didn't know the 2nd gen iPod Touch had Bluetooth until Apple announced it like 8 months after it was released. I don't know anything about this stuff really, so I'm likely wrong, but is it possible that the phone is CDMA and we just don't know it? Someone smarter than me answer

Maybe that's why they got rid of field test mode?? Even now you can't see the details of field test mode, only the signal. But I'm sure that is is GSM only.
