iPhone 4 delayed texts

I am not sure if this is an AT&T problem or my iphone 4.
Sometimes my texts can be delayed anywhere from 1 minute to hours. This can happen right in the middle of a text conversation. It's like the other person just disappears.
Anybody have any ideas?

Has been happening to me on Rogers, too. Googling revealed no solutions.

I'm suspecting I might be having this issue as well. The only person I really text is my GF and she'll get my texts instantly up to 45 minutes later. She doesn't seem to have a problem receiving others' text, and no other issues as far as I can tell on my end. But we'll be sitting next to each other and she'll start getting texts I sent before I would leave for her place.

This has been happening to me for a long time now, I'm using a 3GS, I'm from the uk and using the o2 network, I've used other phones and the iPhone is the only mobile that does this, it gets really frustrating sometimes
