It makes me wonder how that web shot of the broken iPhone 4 screen (no innards) was broken...

That's crazy!

I have never had a screen protector or case (or a scratch), so I know how well the older iPhone screens stand up to normal use, but that's simply amazing!

Yeah I think I'm going to skip a screen protector this time... might still opt for a Bumper (actually ordered one, dunno if I'll keep it).

Although that is very impressive, my Zagg IS is sitting on my desk waiting for my i4.

There is no confirmation that it is Gorilla Glass, Apple have used corning for glass before but previous iPhones and Laptops have used glass from other companies.

Also Apples said "they" have created a new glass, not using an existing product

I have seen a couple of sight speculating its Gorilla glass but again non have confirmed!

iFixit has managed to obtain and post a tear down (in progress) of the new iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 isn't due for release until Thursday, June 24th, but many customers started receiving their orders as early as today. A few notes of interest:

- Storage capacity is not etched on the back
- iPhone OS 4, build 8A293
- 3.7V 1420 mAh Li-Polymer battery
- Screen is believed to use Corning Gorilla Glass
- A4 Part Numbers confirm 512MB of RAM rather than 256MB found in the prototypes

Dude, the BlendTec ripped through a can of beans, and the iPhone's screen won't be harder than metal.

... or will it?

The world may never know...

...or will we?

I've bought a screen protector for my iPhone 4, but it makes me wonder if I should use it if this is true. But saying that is the back of the cases going to use the same glass? My 3G had it's fair share of scratches and gashes on the back.

If I remember correctly, both sides of the phone have the same glass.

The Motorola Droid uses Gorilla Glass. Still, some owners have had broken screens with unlucky drops. It's glass, after all.

Since Apple says the front glass on the iPhone 4 is bonded to the underlying screen, does that mean we go back to the days of the first iPhone, where breaking one means replacing both?

Why anyone would dare put a screen protector on this beautiful display is beyond me.........

To each there own though.

I think they say the front glass is bonded to the digitizer, yes? Not the screen itself.

I could be wrong, I'm working from memory.

First, the battery is very easy to remove (and thus, replace) after removing the two screws. The LCD panel is not, however, as it's tighly glued to the glass and digitizer. So if you do manage to break the Gorilla Glass, you'll have to replace it, the digitizer, and the LCD as a single unit.
