So the headphone jack on my iphone 4 is acting weird. When I plug my computer 3.5mm plug into the headphone jack to play music through my computer speakers.. it's fine.. at any volume.

when I plug in my headphones, you can only hear it at 75% of the volume set. If you try to lower the volume, either through the side buttons of from the ipod itself, you can then only hear static.. until you increase the volume to about 75% or so...I thought it was the headphones at first, but I bought a new one and it's the same problem. Weird thing that it works fine with the computer speakers.

anyone encounter this problem?

I havent heard of this happening before the best thing to do is either give apple a call or take to the genius bar.

Have you plugged it in all the way? The volume of my my earphone was low too at first, until I discovered I had to push it a millimeter or so further in.

Do you have a bumper on your iPhone? I know the hole in the bumper for the headphone jack allows the Apple headphones to fit properly, but it is slightly too small for my Sennheiser headphones, but not so small that its obvious thats what the problem is.

No it isn't. Because all things work even if the earphone is not plugged in completely. At least with my iPhone it is, I have to push hard the last part to get it in completely. It should be obvious but it is not.

I have this exact same problem.

While testing and fiddling around with the panning/mono settings I found out that the issue is isolated to the left channel and that the volume on this channel won't increase or decrease gradually until it's about at 80%.

Before reaching 80% volume the left channel is heavily distorted. After 80% the left channel improves by 90% although you can still feel some distortion in the background.

I've tried cleaning the headphone jack with no luck.

Anyone else having similar issues?

Hey guys,

I just got my hands on a 4s and currently am facing the same issue. The phone is currently running IOS 7.0.2. I have noticed however, when i am receiving a call and use the headphones, the static noise does not appear at low volumes. I am at a bit of a loss here. Any help or fixes? Thanks!
