This is a really weird problem I've had with my iPhone 4 for the last few months. The home button will randomly stop working for a while until I press it like 20 times and all of a sudden it will work again. Also I usually have to press the home button twice to exit applications most of the time. I've never dropped my phone or dropped it in water, I'm thinking it's dust in the button? Should I take it in to the genius bar and they will fix it? This happens randomly so I'm afraid I won't be able to reproduce the results there. What should I do?

Same issue

I am having the same issue. I will push it and nothing happens then other times I will press it and it acts like it pushed it twice ore more.

Updated to latest iOS and it still does the same thing.

Strange issue.

I am going to take it in to get fixed (swapped out I assume). But not sure I want a fixed phone from someone else that had a different problem.

Yes that is the same exact thing that is happening with my phone. I went to the apple store today (45 mins away) and booked a genius appt. The guy came to me and he said I needed to reproduce the button not working. I tried but my phone just worked flawlessly. I told him that this happens on a daily basis at least once and I cant tell when it happens. I must have gotten some rude arrogant Mac fanboy as a genius and he kept saying this annoying dialog that he can't do anything about it. I even asked if he could just swap it and he just acted like that would be too much work for him as if he wanted to go on lunch break or something. He royally pissed me off. He made it seem that I was lying to him and sees stupid customers like me everyday. And to top that off he kept pushing the apple care service on me like one of those commissioned sales people. Anyways all I know is I'm not coming to this apple store again (Sacramento-Arden fair). I'll be driving 1.5 hours to a better one down the highway or the ones in bay area. I never really had a good experience at this particular one and each of the employees act like total snobs and are superior to you or something. If my home button stops working at all after my warranty expires in 1 month I might as well buy a windows phone 7 or some **** like that. At least I know the home button will work.

Same thing here on a 2G phone.

Just installed "Close App" button on sbsettings - it works for all applications that don't steal your topbar.
