Still haven't fixed mine yet. I tried the air and tapping trick, but they didn't work. I may just try and hold off until the iPhone 5 comes out.

i have also purchased new iPhone 4 ,when i got it back to my home and after 2 days i found my iphone button defective

After almost 4 months, I'm getting the problem. Saw on youtube it's the small metal leads of the home button eventually compressing the lead on the iPhone's logic board so it doesn't make contact all the time. Quick question though, are most of you who go to the Genius Bar getting brand new phones or refurbs? Because at the Verizon store my dad and I have had our share of "Certified, Like-New" replacements that were crap (not Apple phones though). Plus, someone at my old school said a Genius just unwrapped a new iPhone 4 right in from of him.

I received a refurb AFAIK (he took my phone and walked away and came back with another phone in his hand sans box) when I went in last week, and most of the the other posts I have read on here reflect the same thing.

I'm having the same issue with my iPhone 4, and have an appointment to take it in to the Apple store tomorrow. If I just make a backup in iTunes, will that allow me to restore the replacement with that backup, and get all my text messages, contacts, etc on the new phone? I have a lot of important messages that I can't lose.

The home button on my iP4 has been having this same problem.

Went into the Apple Store this evening with no appointment. Had to sit for 15 minutes or so, as there were people ahead of me. I explained my problem to the lovely lady. She took it into the back to open it up and "reseat the cable".

Came back 10 minutes later, said she thought it was better, but wanted to give me the option of getting a replacement.

So, a few minutes later, walked out with a refurbed phone. And all this even with the small crack on the front glass of the first phone.

And this is why I'll continue buying Apple products and recommending them to people. They know how to give good customer service.
