I recently update my IPhone 4 to 4.2 and since then the battery life has been horrible.
The device will drain the battery through the night when not plugged in,without any use, except being set to be an alarm clock.
Email push is on manual.
Data roaming is off... I mention this because I first noticed the problem while in Shanghai.
I also notice that when on a call the display flashes
I have read other threads about poor battery and nothing except having the app Motion GPS appears similar to my issue.
There is talk about an app called "case app" and I do not know about this app.
My device is about 30 days old.

Thanks for anything that can help me.

DFU restore as a new phone...do NOT restore from backup. 99 times out of 100 bad battery life is a software issue.

your better off in the main forum since you are not discussing a hacked phone or wanting to hack one. if you think there is really something wrong with the battery you should contact Apple.

Lucifiel:
In Motion GPS, I set the GPS receiver to "always off", in the menu-multitasking option. Is there any other switch you know of that can drain the battery

Jayhawk11: I have done a restore in DFU mode...wish me luck!

Labman: I posted my problem in the Iphone tips and trouble shooting forum.

Thanks everybody for your help...
Best wishes

I bought my iP4 with preinstalled iOS 4.2.1 version.
I noticed also that the battery drains very fast.

Do I have to restore? By the way, this is my first iPhone.

My iP4 is a factory unlocked phone. I'm using it only for Internet.
My Ip4 is not jailbroken.
Email push in manual mode.

TIME SINCE LAST FULL CHARGE:
Battery: 12%
Usage: 5hours, 35mins.
Standby: 11hrs, 24mins.

I think that's all.

I know Facebook has had some terrible battery issues. I don't think it's really offers much background stuff but it certainly runs back there and drains the battery.

keep a eye on what you are running in the background. Again you are better of in the trouble shooting forum. Since factory unlocking is not a hack also might want to check directly with apple!

Am I the only one here thinking this isn't bad at all? Maybe I am biased with my beatup phone but I was viewing the iphone as something that must be plugged in every night.

IPhone 4 iOS 4.2 poor battery life

I believe I have solved my problem
I did a DFU restore and turned off the receiver in Motion GPS.
Menu-settings-multitasking-always off.
I charged my IPhone last night and still at 9:35 pm on Christmas Day still have 52% battery. after using the device for sms today and some time on a face call with the UK.

Thanks for everybody's suggestions
Happy New Year
