Hey guys, SLIGHT ISSUE.

I put a 4 digit passcode lock on my phone at college today because everyone was getting facebook raped, and i wanted to avoid it, of course.

The problem as you might have guessed, is that ive forgotten the code. I dont normally have a code on my phone so its not something i can remember, and it was a totally random code (which i DID remember through the lesson, but when it came to leaving i totally blanked)

Someone told me to connect it to itunes and that would unlock it, tried that and NOPE, which after doing some research i regret because it's my understanding that the backup will now include the passcode setting so a restore is out of the question; is that right?

Id hugely appreciate any advice, but i dont want to do a full restore and lose all my stuff, that would probably make me physically sick.

thanks in advance!

ps. i did do a search, didnt turn up anything relevant :(

Your toast, the code is stored in part of memory that is not erased doing a restore or as new phone even.

This is done to prevent people from stealing the phone and then just doing a restore to factory and selling it.

Its a paper weight until you call Apple for help or your Carrier.

GL.

Oh lord.

Tried ringing my nearest store but it asks if i want the store, or to be transferred to applecare, which should i go for? I don't have an extended applecare THING if that makes a difference, thanks for your reply though!

if its in warranty ( the first year then you are fine) if not then choose the store.

Also there may be a way on the net (I dont know) but APPle will talk to you free at least.

Really? I thought a full restore erased it: To restore, you need to enter recovery mode, connect the phone to the pc and press and hold the Power button and the Home button simultaneously. After about 15 sec phone will appear to turn off, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button. After about 15 sec the computer and iTunes will detect the phone in recovery mode, and then you can perform a restore.

And it's not like it's hard to bypass by mounting an iPhone in Ubuntu or other Linux distro.

Thanks for the replies folks!

I called my nearest apple store (after literally lol-ing at my story about facebook rape) just said to connect to itunes and restore from backup, and it worked!

Just a plain old restore without any fancyness! So relieved haha

Lol he probably stole it and asking how to remove the passcode to use it.
