Hi guys, I've this problem that recently happened... My microphone does not work during calls, but it works when i try to record memo voice, skype, viber etc...
AND i also noticed that when i hit the iphone hard on the back the microphone works again, shortly or the whole conversation, depends how i hit it...
but when they can not hear me after I've talked to them and the microphone stopped working, i hit the phone again and will work again.

Is there something i can do to make it work??
I'm out of warranty, so return it to Apple is not an option.
I've looked for some threads that are similair and also some youtube clips and some of them tells that you can "fix" this problem by putting an cardboard piece next to a metal piece.
Do you think it will work??

The mic for voice memos and some other apps is different than the one for voice calls. You could try to find a repair shop that services iPhones and have them install another bottom mic part and test with that.

Restore the iPhone and set up as new (not from backup). There might be a conflicting setting somewhere. It's best to flush everything out than to look for it.

The OP says the mic works for a while if he "hits it hard" enough :). I would say that's an unlikely solution for a software settings problem :p

Smacking an electronic device to make it work again doesn't tell you that something's loose inside? You may have made the original problem worse. Take it in to the Apple Store for a real diagnosis & repair if possible.

OP, I had this problem on the AT&T iPhone 4 I used to have. This seems to be a fairly common problem with the 4 and 4s:

iFixit forum iPhone 4: no one hears me on calls
Apple Support Community: People can't hear me on calls
Apple Support Community: People can't hear me during calls

I ended up selling my phone as is. From what I've read, there is a certain SMD on one of the ribbons that becomes loose after some traumatic event/s to the phone (dropped, bumped, etc..) that has something to do with the noise cancellation. I'm not sure if it is on a ribbon or if it's actually on the logic board. If this is truly the cause, it would require some knowledge and skill in soldering to repair.

Have you taken your phone to an Apple Store, yet? You should see if they could do anything for you. If not, I recommend getting a new phone. Good luck, let us know what you end up doing. Cheers, and Happy New Year. Sent from my iPad.
