For those of you who got a new Iphone 4 shipped to you in the last couple of days what IOS was on your phone? 4.0.1 or 4.0.2?

I bought mine two weeks ago, order from AT&T and when it came in 4.0.1 was on it, I have since upgraded to 4.0.2 and so far no trouble, however I think the only thing .02 does it close the hole for JB'ing.

I am about to get an iphone please let me know what firmware if someone recently bought it.

Bought Aug 9th and mine had 4.0.1. Honestly the version doesnt matter. Just upgrade/downgrade to what you want.

Go back and read your news again buddy. Newest firmware is 4.0.2 the reason OP is asking is because 4.0.2 disables the PDF exploit jailbreakme uses. The whole point of the thread is to determine if 4.0.2 is shipping on new iPhones yet.

Go back and read your news? You can downgrade from 4.0.2.

Not if the phone ships with 4.0.2 because the 4.0.1 signing window will close soon if it has not allready. The only reason you can go from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2 back to 4.0.1 is because your 4.0.1 shsh is backed up on either saurik's server or your local pc.

The 4.0.1 signing window is still open, but I don't know how long that will last. So as of right now if you have 4.0.2 you can downgrade to 4.0.1 without using Saurik's server.

Just RMA'd my iphone4 for a defective battery. Received a brand new iphone4 (not a refurb as they don't have any yet, so says the genius), it had 4.0.1 on it. Used Firmware Umbrella before leaving the store...

Crap my iPhone4 ships sept 7, I think im gonna be screwed :S

Probably so. I would bet that Apple will definitely close the signing window by then. Usually they close it either the day of or with a few days of the new software release, but this time they have left it open a little longer.

Total Noob here. What does "signing" mean? I'm awaiting delivery of my IP4, and worried that it might have 4.0.2 pre-installed on it. I downloaded the 4.0.1 ipsw file and saved it on my PC. If Apples stops "signing" 4.0.1, will I still be able to shift-click restore 4.0.1 from the downloaded file on my PC?

Thx!

I bought a 3GS on the morning that iOS 4.0.2 came out so mine was obviously pre-loaded with 4.0.1

Signing is a process which Apple uses to verify your firmware version for updating purposes. When you do an update or restore iTunes sends a request with the firmware version and your UDID to Apple's servers and the if the servers are still signing that version it will send a notification with a signature back to iTunes OK'ing it to proceed with the installation. When Apple quits signing the firmware version it will send a notification without a signature to iTunes rejecting that version and iTunes will not allow you to install that firmware version.

So if Apple quits signing the version it won't matter that you have it saved on your comp because the servers will reject your request for a signature for that version.

Think of it as getting a report card signed by your parents and taking it back to school.

I ordered from att yesterday afternoon and it shipped around 5 pm. We'll see what it comes with, should be here tomorrow or friday.
