I have an iPhone 4, along with the back glass being shattered (which I can deal with), the home button has stopped being responsive. Obviously, this isn't a great time to upgrade. In the past, I got a broken iPhone replaced for 199 without upgrading. Can I still do this? Or would I have to upgrade. Thanks for any replies.

Yes you can just take it to the Apple store and pay $149 for a replacement unit, and it will not use your upgrade at all.
