    Hi,

    I also using iphone 4 OS 4.2.1.

I've jailbroken successfully. I can download any apps now.

But my problem is, my cydia dun seems to be working. Everytime i open, it brings up the window and then closes itself.

What can Cydia do? Is it useful?

So a tethered jailbreak is not good? I cannot use any laptop without redsnow to charge my iphone battery? I had been using normal plug charger for the past few days, it can be charged leh.

Please help me. I'm new to apple products.

    have you tried reinstalling?
I would suggest googleing and searching how to install the new cydia or something and install that.

It fixed mine when it semi crashed

redo the jb or reinstall cydia... cydia is the main reason people jb! If Cydia is not opening I don't think you can download any apps since you would have done nothing to the phone to make it accept unsigned apps....

Nope. Do you mean re-installing cydia?

My JB is definitely working because i tried downloading apps. And its still free. My Cydia crash because i tried the 'essential updates' when i switch on cydia for the first time.

    My situation now is:

I jailbreak my phone yesterday and i tried downloading a few apps first and its free. Then i went to switch on cydia, they prompt me to do the 'essential updates'. I agree and my cydia crashed. But i continue download, its still downloadable.

You can always SSH, iFile, iPhoneBrowser into:
    /private/var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall

if the directories don't exist create them.

Grab and drop the latest version of Cydia from http://apt.saurik.com/debs/cydia_1.0.3366-1_iphoneos-arm.deb into that folder

Restart the iPhone. (Don't just respring!)
When you restart the phone if all goes well Cydia should be reinstalled to that version. See if that helps with any of your probs.

I dun get what u mean. Can you tell me the step by step on how to reinstall cydia? I'm still very new to apple products. Please guide me. Thanks.

What is SSH? What is the difference respring and restart? How do you do restart/respring?

    So sorry to bother you.

Again I am not totally sure if this will help you or not... You can even just rejailbreak and install Cydia that way lol
I would first try that option and see if it fixes Cydia.

Otherwise try this other simpler method that what I said above:
    -Download iPhoneBrowser from:
    http://code.google.com/p/iphonebrowser/downloads/list
Pick the file on the top version 1.93, install it.

    -Connect iPhone and browse to:
    /private/var/lib/dpkg/updates

-Delete whatever you see appear, open Cydia and see if it... opens!

4.2.1 is a tethered Jailbreak, everytime you reboot you need to re-run redsn0w and use the "tethered boot" option.

you said that Cydia is not working because you have to pay for the app??? Which app exactly are you taling about, cydia have Paid Apps (just like that App Store) and also got free apps (most of them modifications to the OS).

I'm confuse about what app you want to get for free.

Jailbreak is not a tool for pirating app, if you need help with that you can go somewhere else, discussing those matter here is against the forums rules.
