Something is going on with my phone. I haven't changed anything lately, but in the last 4 days my phone has been getting really warm and the battery is draining very quickly. Phone was fully charged and 1.5 hours later (without using it) it is now at 82%. 15 minutes later at 78%

Email boxes set to sync every 30-minutes.

The only thing I can think of that was recently updated was the Facebook app - is anyone else having this issue?

I have the same problem and my email is set to hourly. This is a huge problem because I constantly lose battery life. If I, for example, leave my iPhone unplugged over night it will guaranteed have no battery in the morning. I really don't want to do a fresh restore because it's too big a pain in terms of all my data on the phone.

Did this just start?

.............

Yes, something is definitely wrong with my phone. I did a full back-up/restore last night. Turned WiFi and BT off and my phone was at 100% this morning at 7a, by 11a it is now at 68%. I haven't made one call or sent out one email/text, etc.

I did call Apple and they said they will send me out a replacement and I can send mine back. Unfortunately, I have to wait to Monday. At this rate I don't think my phone will last 8 hours.

Really weird since it just started happening. I'm wondering if I take my phone to an Apple store will they replace the phone or simply replace the battery? FYI - I bought my phone when it came out, no Apple Care.

I am having the exact same issue! Battery was fine until I updated a few apps on Wednesday/Thursday (1 being facebook). Phone was fully charged and in "sleep" mode, but battery only lasted on standby about 5 hours. I didn't use the phone at all, thats what has me confusesd.:(

Yeah it is so weird. Last night I charged the phone to 100% - unplugged it at 12a. Woke up at 7a to check the time and the phone is dead.

Usually when batteries are going bad the performance slowly begins to decline. I've never seen anything like this.

yup, i'm having the same problem as everyone else here. Charged my phone to 100% last night before i went to sleep, woke up and it was dead. I did this as a test because the battery has been acting up for a few days, I noticed like two days ago it was becoming super hot – too hot, so i turned it off let it cool down, and ever since then the batter has been draining super fast. I have the iphone 4 32g, I would also note that my memory on the phone is almost maxed out.

Any solutions to this issue? My battery life took a dive sometime around 27th December. Perfectly normal before then (draining very slowly on standby - I was perfectly happy). Then, all of a sudden, battery started draining much faster. I would lose about 80% overnight. Thought I might have damaged the battery as I recently started charging the phone with the iPad charger (not regularly - just a couple times), but that doesn't seem to be the case. Did a restore to factory settings (didn't use backup) and tested it yesterday by playing video non-stop. Lasted 11hrs, so I think the battery itself must be fine. Restored it then again, back to my backup, and now it's draining fast again. I really can't figure out what caused the change. No point saying I should turn off wifi, push mail, location services etc. as I always had all of these turned on before this happened, and the battery life was great! Something happened just after Christmas that changed things, and I don't know what!!

I have the same problem

I have started experiencing the same problem with my 4 month old iphone, after Christmas.

Battery used to drain from 100% to 0% overnight even with 3G off. I took it to the Apple Store where the genius suggested that I set it up as a new iphone, without restoring from the backup. After doing that, it shows 63% charge in the morning even though it was fully charged at night.

I took it out of the dock with 100% charge about an hour back and it reads 94% charge with zero usage. That's pathetic.

I have switched to Sprint Blackberry Bold 9650 with OS 6 and I am mainly using the glorious iPhone 4 as a very lousy tablet because it is no longer mobile as it needs to stay in the dock most of the time.

I figure I will take it back to the Apple store one of these days. Will Apple give me my money back?

Having the same problem, that started around Christmas. Would leave my 100% phone by my bed and in the morning it would be dead. I fixed the problem on my iPhone 3GS (don't know how), but my iPhone 4 is still having problems.

There is 30+ pages of forums on Apple's site, but no real solutions:

I also thought it was the facebook app, but I can't prove it.

Lost 25% overnight, with no bluetooth or wifi but with location services on.

A good baseline test that I think we all should try is to charge it fully before going to sleep and resetting it as well to make sure that no apps are running in the background.

I'll try that myself tonight and report my findings.

25% loss overnight with no applications running.

So the current status is:

25% loss = No Wifi, No bluetooth, No applications, 3G On, Location Services On, Push email On.

Next test will be with Airplane mode On.

Problem Solved

Thanks to the simpleleap forum, I found a solution that has worked for me...

When I tapped the Home buttom twice it brought up the task bar. There were 37 apps running in the backround.

When I tapped and held one of them, a red '-' showed up that allowed me to close the individual app.

I closed them all and my battery life is back to normal.

Hope this helps...

2% battery drain with airplane mode on. Next test will be with location and push off.

Location and Push email off: 25% battery loss.

Next I tested with 3G off, i.e. 2G Edge only: 3% battery loss!

My iPhone is just a days old and my battery barely last half day.

Even in standby mode, it drains around 2-3% per hour.

Wifi on, 3g on, bt off, push only 1 gmail account, all apps closed

12:00am : fully charged
7:00am: 84%

and it shows 6 hours standy and 1 hour use, but I haven't even touch it!!!

anyone?

With no apps running start by turning on Airplane mode for an hour. If you are still experiencing serious draining then return the phone.
If battery draining is very light with Airplane mode then turn it off again and try disabling 3G. As I found out, low coverage (2-3 bars or less) drains the battery rapidly.

Compare.

Well the coverage in my area is quite low, i always get 2-3 bars with 3g on, but 4-5 bars with 3g off. Strange.

Im trying airplane mode will report back in 2 hours

Update 1:
After 6 hours in airplane mode still shows 100%. everything off, no apps running, checking every hour.

Now I will turn all connections off except phone function, and report back tonight.

iPhone 4 running 4.2.1

20 hours using 3G, light use including overnight then a few phone calls and web use: Battery used 50%
20 hours using 2G, light use including overnight then a few phone calls and web use: Battery used 10%. :D

Lesson: Don't enable 3G in low coverage areas unless you intend to charge the phone every night.

Update #2.

-Phone went off the charger yesterday 9:00am, went to airplane mode
-6 hours later on airplane mode still show 100%.
-Enabled 3g yesterday 3:00pm, used to phone to mostly take pictures, about 150 pictures, few hours internet and IM on 3G, some games.
-Now it shows 7%. 5 hours usage and 29 on standby.

I could say the phone lasts a day with moderate use. The signal in my place is horrible and the phone will constantly show "searching" and 1-3 bar signal.

Rare thing is, 2 days ago with wifi on the phone dropped from 100% to 84% in 7 hours standby, but last night with the exact same setting the phone only dropped from 76% to 68% in 7 hours.

20 hours using 2G, light use including overnight then a few phone calls and web use: Battery used 10%.

How do you do that?? my phone drains more than 10% after 20 hours standby with 2g/3g/wifi/bt off.

How many bars do you have with 3G disabled?

Set the phone to 2G, turn off Location, Wifi bluetooth, Push mail and then reset the phone (to close all applications).

How is the battery usage then?

After 24 hours the battery usage was 20%.

This included 8 hours of standby time and then daytime use which included 5 phonecalls, 3 flash pictures taken, two apps downloaded, 5 minutes of wifi surfing, around 10 minutes of gameplaying and 15-20 minutes of general phone twiddling.

Right now I have full 5 bars with 3g off. With 3g enabled only 3 bars. I will set it like that until tomorrow and see how much battery i got left.

Last night I let the phone to fully charge,

Wifi on
edge/3g/bt off
push/notifications off
phone reboot

When I woke up 8 hours later it was showing 99%. wow.

Tonight I try again with enabled push an notifications, but no 2g/3g.

Resurrecting this thread because I started having the overnight drain 3 days ago. I think I accidentally left beejive running in the background that first night, but not since.

Here's the really strange thing - both yesterday and today, the drain has been totally normal during the day (1% every few hours on standby). But at night, it lost over 50% in seven hours. The only difference is that at night it's on wifi and during the day it isn't (but wifi is on).

Other than the one time with beejive, I haven't done anything different from what I've done since getting the phone. Wifi, BT, 3G etc are all on, but that's not a change from last week, when I would lose maybe 2-3% overnight.

Has anyone successfully resolved this without restoring?

Turn off wifi

Usually when I leave my phone overnight, I'll loose maybe 5% with just an alarm on and one or two small apps still in multitasking. Last night all of the multitasking apps were off and there was still the alarm set, but my phone when I woke up was 20% lower than what it was when I went to bed. I checked the phone usage and there was no big increase like I would expect. No push e-mail is on, and only connected to wi-fi and 3g is off.

Realy, i had the same problem, just turn your wifi off and everything's ok :)
