I was considering the Altec! its just for my room and it sounds like it night be a little overkill but i would rather have more than I need than not enough! thanks for the help guys.

I've found the Sony iDevice docks have superior sound to all other docks. It's pretty much obvious when you hear them side by side.
Yes, it works great with my iPhone 4. As for it being overkill for a small room, it has an adjustable EQ so you can tweak it until you get the sound that you like.
i have the bose portable dick speaker and it works great. its small and light and its boss so you know it sounds good.
Absolutely this. I've just bought the Sony SRS-GU10ip for £60 over here in the UK but Amazon have it for $105. It is so so bassy and sounds absolutely stunning for the price. Completely compatible with my iP4 as well.

I like/have the iHome iP1. If I want to use my iPad I just dock a bluetooth adapter and connect.
I purchased the Bose Sounddock Portable system. It was $300. Truly an amazing sound experience. Plus it is very portable with a rechargable battery pack that lasts for a surprisingly long time. It is fully compatible with the iPhone 4...and I use it with my case on.
decided to go with the Altec Lansing iMT800 and wow am I impressed! the only complaint I have is the bass shakes my iphone to the side a little bit, but it didnt efect the conection at all jut a little worried that it may harm the dock connetor on my iphone... any thoughts?
